weatherornotOh gosh was Genevieve tired. How did she ever party like this ALL THE TIME? Was this getting old? Is this what 25 did to you, it made you exhausted when you partied? She was officially no longer one of "the youths" and this was how she knew that.
No, no she refused to believe that she was over that particular hill just yet. She was definitely exhausted but it was more mental exhaustion than anything. It was the people part of the partying that had drained her, especially since it was more Mira's people than anything. Not that they didn't have mutual friends or that Mira's school and work colleagues weren't great but people took a lot out of Gen sometimes.
Celebrating Mira getting her Doctorate was not the normal sort of party that she was used to. It was a lot more talking and thinking about important things than just letting loose to the music. But that was okay, because she'd had a wonderful time tonight and she was pretty sure that Mira did as well. They'd waited long enough to celebrate, not wanting to jinx anything until it was super, duper official but it was worth the wait.
Mira had been so glowing and relieved and happy, it made Gen's heart happy to see her like that. It had been rough on both of them but the good kind of rough, the kind where they were able to grow closer and express their love more through that sort of deep, sacrificial love you could only really show when you went through hard times.
Gen's job paid well enough that Mira didn't have to take a job outside of what she did for her research and while it meant long hours for both of them it was so worth it. So worth it. It had been worth it to see how excited Mira and her friends and colleagues were and it was worth it now in the quiet of the night, the waves lapping quietly on her boat where they had held the party. Mira was just seeing the last of their guests off by walking them to the end of the dock and Gen stood on the boat waiting for her.
"Excuse me, but is there a doctor around?" she softly called out when Mira was close. "There's a beautiful woman in front of me that's taken my breath away. I might need mouth to mouth."
